The laboratory traces its origins to the Sector of Helminth Morphology and Systematics of the Laboratory of Helminthology of the USSR Academy of Sciences, established in the 1940s. From 1993 to 2007, the laboratory was named the «Laboratory of Parasite Morphology and Systematics.» Prominent Russian parasitologists worked in the laboratory, including K.M. Ryzhikov, V.E. Sudarikov, A.A. Shigin, V.I. Freze, and others.
