In 1952, within the Laboratory of Helminthology of the USSR Academy of Sciences (now the Center for Parasitology of IEE RAS), a unit for studying plant-parasitic nematodes was established, headed by Professor A.A. Paramonov, the founder of Russian plant nematology, which became the basis of the Laboratory of Plant Nematology. The laboratory works in three main directions: the developmental biology of living systems; the ecology of organisms and communities; and biological diversity.
