Organized on the initiative of the State Committee for Science and Technology of the USSR (Resolution of the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences No. 781 of 09/14/1967
The Council coordinates basic and applied research on biodeterioration problems:
- Study of the processes of damage to materials, technical structures, products under the influence of organisms (animals, plants, bacteria, fungi);
- Study of the patterns of formation and functioning of communities that cause biodamage and biocorrosion;
- Research and development of effective and environmentally friendly means of protection against biological damage to materials and products during their operation and storage in water, air and underground environments;
- The use of organisms-agents of biological damage for the destruction of industrial waste that pollutes the environment.
The Council adapts the results of fundamental and applied research, conducted in academic and industry institutes and universities, to the solution of practical problems of the national economy.
