Among the main scientific research areas of the Laboratory of Helminthology of the USSR Academy of Sciences (now the Center of Parasitology of IEE RAS), the ecological direction has occupied, and continues to occupy, one of the leading places. From the very beginning of GELAN's operation (1944), this was determined by the fundamental objectives of helminthology formulated by Academician K.I. Skryabin. For a long time, ecological studies in helminthology were not distinguished as an independent field and were carried out within the framework of studies of helminth epizootology.
