The Laboratory of Comparative Ethology and Biocommunication of IEE RAS was created in 1990 after separating from the Laboratory of Bioacoustics. Until 2007 it was headed by Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor E.N. Panov. In 2007, after a reorganization of the Institute, the Chemical Communication and Chemoreception Group (formed in 1971, headed by Doctor of Chemical Sciences Eduard Petrovich Zinkevich) was merged into the laboratory. Since 2007, the laboratory has been headed by Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences A.V. Surov. The laboratory's research covers various aspects of the behavior and communication of higher vertebrates.
