Research Directions

Amid growing anthropogenic pressure on the environment and increasing risks to human life and health, the Strategy for Scientific and Technological Development of the Russian Federation through 2035 identifies countering man-made sources of hazard — above all, anthropogenic pollutants — as a priority for scientific and technological development.

The key areas of the CBS's current research within this strategic initiative are:

  • Establishing the patterns of chronic intoxication under long-term exposure to low doses of dioxins and dioxin-like substances contaminating the environment;
  • Developing a universal methodological approach to the screening-level assessment of the health risk posed to the population by low doses of dioxins and dioxin-like substances;
  • Addressing the methodological aspects of studying and assessing the ecological situation with respect to super-ecotoxicants, primarily in terms of identifying and assessing foci and zones of ecotoxicological distress.
