The IEE RAS Utrish Marine Station was established in 1978. The station is located on the coast of the Black Sea between Anapa and Novorossiysk, near Cape Maly Utrish. The station occupies a 2 ha plot of land close to the sea, surrounded by low, forested hills. It is an inter-laboratory field station for the study of marine mammals and fish. The station can accommodate up to 40 people at a time. It has about 30 temporary laboratory, utility, and residential structures, 7 experimental pools, and enclosures for keeping dolphins and pinnipeds in a coastal lagoon with seawater. The station has a dining hall, storage facilities, a boat shed, a garage, freezers for storing marine mammal feed, scuba diving equipment, motorboats, and vehicles.
Several IEE RAS laboratories conduct regular work at the station.
