Lecture "Louse flies and their fascinating evolution" at the NAUKA 0+ Festival at the A.N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution (RAS)

On October 9 at 15:00, the A.N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution (RAS) will host a lecture by Alexandra Yatsuk, PhD in Biology, titled "Louse flies and their fascinating evolution."

Louse flies are primarily known as ectoparasites of birds and mammals that are of veterinary importance. However, these unusual insects hold interest for scientists beyond just that aspect. Louse flies are excellent subjects for studying evolution: their lifestyle has driven the development of numerous unique morphological and physiological adaptations that enable them to live on a host's body, cling securely to fur or feathers, and feed on blood.

The lecture offers an opportunity to view louse flies from a new perspective and understand why they are so intriguing to evolutionary biologists. You will learn how a parasitic lifestyle has shaped their anatomy, what adaptations have emerged across different groups during their evolution, and what studying these insects can reveal about evolutionary processes in general.
