8th Russian Beaver Conference with International Participation

We invite you to join the 8th Russian Beaver Conference with International Participation. Regular All-Russian meetings with the purpose of beaver conservation were held at the Voronezh Nature Reserve from 1948 to 1989; these scientific and practical gatherings played a pivotal role in saving the Eurasian beaver (Castor fiber L.) from extinction and fully restoring its population. Today, new fundamental questions are emerging regarding the significant impact beavers have on the natural environment, alongside a number of issues requiring management decisions. Continuing this historical tradition, the V.E. Sokolov Theriological Society (under the Russian Academy of Sciences) has decided to resume the beaver conferences at the Voronezh Nature Reserve, maintaining the established format of these scientific events.
Conference dates: September 20-22, 2027
Venue: Voronezh Nature Reserve
Conference topics:
● Current status of beaver populations in Russia and neighboring countries (abundance and dynamics, utilization and management, conservation of relict subspecies).
● Current research on beaver biology (evolutionary biology, morphology and physiology, behavior and communication, parasites and diseases).
● Impact of beaver activity on natural ecosystems (effects on abiotic and biotic components, beaver pond ecosystems).
● Issues of beaver-human coexistence (challenges and solutions, captive rearing and breeding, historical and cultural aspects).
We invite representatives from academic and industry research sectors, universities, nature reserves, and other conservation organizations—as well as anyone interested in beavers and their environmental impact—to participate in the conference.
Details are available in the First Announcement.
