"An Evolutionary Dynasty: Marking the 160th Anniversary of the Birth of A. N. Severtsov and the 90th Anniversary of the Birth of A. S. Severtsov"

On September 8, 2026, the museum hosted the grand opening of the exhibition "Evolutionary Dynasty: Marking the 160th Anniversary of A. N. Severtsov’s Birth and the 90th Anniversary of A. S. Severtsov’s Birth."

I. A. Klyukina, Director of the Darwin Museum, welcomed the guests. The opening was attended by A. S. Severtsov’s daughter, E. A. Severtsova, along with her husband, A. A. Kormilitsin, and their son, A. A. Severtsov; they had kindly provided personal belongings of the younger of the two honorees for the exhibition.

Speakers paid tribute to two representatives of a brilliant evolutionary lineage - a family that has for over a century been conducting successful research in zoology, ecology, embryology, morphology, and evolutionary theory, while tirelessly seeking answers to the most challenging biological questions:

- Natalia Yuryevna Feoktistova, Scientific Secretary of the A.N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution (Russian Academy of Sciences) and Doctor of Biological Sciences;

- Elena Alekseevna Severtsova, Scientific Secretary and Senior Lecturer at the Department of Biological Evolution, Faculty of Biology, Lomonosov Moscow State University;

- Galina Sergeyevna Surova, former staff member of the Department of Biological Evolution, who worked for many years under the supervision of A.S. Severtsov;

- Alexey Vasilyevich Surov, Deputy Director for Science at the A.N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution (Russian Academy of Sciences), Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Doctor of Biological Sciences.
