From June 22 to July 1, 2026, the 8th School-Conference "Systematics and Faunistics of Cladocera" was held at the Deep Lake Hydrobiological Station of the A.N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IEE RAS). The conference is held annually by the staff of the Laboratory of Aquatic Communities and Invasions of IEE RAS (together with colleagues from other institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, primarily the IBWV RAS) as part of the work of the Russian Carcinological Society with the aim of improving the qualifications of hydrobiologists (graduate students, young researchers, and teachers).

The conference brought together researchers from various institutes spread across Kaliningrad and the Kola Peninsula to Tyumen. The conference included lectures by specialists and practical sessions on identifying material for cladoceran studies. The lectures covered the morphology, biogeography, phylogeography, and fundamentals of Cladocera taxonomy. Each participant prepared a paper on their research topic in hydrobiology. A general discussion followed, discussing the papers and various issues related to cladocerans.

One of the school's days was dedicated to an excursion to a unique place – the New Jerusalem Monastery, which amazed the participants with its grandeur, beauty, and long and complex history.

Upon completion of the school, all participants received a certificate of participation and a wealth of positive emotions! We look forward to seeing you at the next school-conferences of the same name, which will take place in 2027.

We would like to express our special gratitude to Yulia Zharova, an employee of the Institute of Biology and Inland Waters of the Russian Academy of Sciences, who took on the responsibility of preparing the school.
