Last year, the Theriological Society of the Russian Academy of Sciences celebrated its half-century anniversary. In the anniversary year, a special issue of the Zoological Journal (2023. T. 102. No. 4) was published, opening with a historical essay on the activities of the society (Rozhnov V.V. Since the Society is traditionally associated with our Institute, the Scientific Council of the Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences, at the request of theriologists, addressed the Department of General Biology of the Russian Academy of Sciences with a offer to name the Society after its founder and first president, Academician V.E. Sokolov, an outstanding biologist. Both the Obn RAS and the Russian Academy of Sciences supported this appeal, and this year the Society was named after its creator, Academician V.E. Sokolov. The Department of Natural Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences issued a special decree about this.
The Institute congratulates the Theriological Society at the Russian Academy of Sciences on this significant event - naming it after Academician V.E. Sokolov, and wishes them further successful work in uniting teriologists and developing research on mammals in our country and abroad.
