Results

The most significant results achieved through the activities of the National Committee of Biologists of Russia

in 2017

– the 5th International Symposium «Alien Species in the Holarctic» («Borok-5») was organized and held in Uglich, Yaroslavl Region, in 2017;

in 2021

- a new composition of the NCBR was formed and approved. The Committee's areas of activity were defined.

- the 6th international symposium «Alien Species in the Holarctic. Borok-VI» was organized and held (in person), 11–15 October 2021, Uglich. The symposium received financial support from IUBS.

- at the General Assembly of the International Society of Zoological Sciences (ISZS), which operates within IUBS, NCBR Chairman RAS Academician Yu.Yu. Dgebuadze was elected a member of the ISZS Executive Committee.

in 2022

- NCBR Deputy Chairman, RAS Corresponding Member A.A. Kotov (Secretary-General of IUBS), took part in three online meetings of the IUBS Executive Committee (Officers' meeting).

- the NCBR took part in organizing the 4th International Conference «Current Problems of Biological Evolution,» 18–21 October 2022. The conference was held successfully, with 166 scientists taking part; 32 poster, 75 section, and 10 plenary presentations were given.

in 2023

- the 34th IUBS General Assembly was held on 9–12 March 2023 in Tokyo (Japan). NCBR Deputy Chairman, RAS Corresponding Member A.A. Kotov, took part in the General Assembly remotely as a member of the IUBS Executive Committee. The Assembly reviewed and approved the Union's activity report for the previous three years (the three-year report was presented by A.A. Kotov), heard reports from the leaders of scientific programs funded by the organization, and received a number of updates on developments in the biological sciences. The General Assembly also approved, on a competitive basis, new programs for funding over the next three years. Numerous current issues were resolved, including a plan for attracting countries that are not yet members of the Union to join as full members. A preliminary budget of the Union for 2024 was approved.

- during 2023, the National Committee of Biologists of Russia received working materials on IUBS programs, making it possible to stay abreast of processes and trends in modern biology and to draw the attention of Russian scientists to them. 

- the NCBR continued disseminating information among Russian research organizations about the online webinars organized by IUBS as part of a webinar series marking the IUBS centenary, which has been running for the past two years. Five webinars have been held; the most recent, a talk by Christine H. Foyer on photosynthesis in times of climate change and «how do plants adapt to a high-CO2 world?», took place in November 2023.

in 2024

- during the year, a number of projects submitted for IUBS funding were reviewed. Expert opinions were prepared for 4 projects submitted for IUBS funding.

- throughout the year, information about IUBS events was disseminated among organizations under the scientific and methodological guidance of the RAS Department of Biological Sciences. These organizations received information about the online webinars held by IUBS.

- on 22-24 October 2024, the 14th International Symposium on Integrative Zoology (ISZS) was held in Beijing (China) on the theme: «Combining Zoological Challenges with Sustainable Development.» The symposium was organized by the International Society of Zoological Sciences (ISZS), integrated into IUBS since 1963. A delegation of Russian scientists, including IUBS members, took part in the symposium.

in 2025

- during the year, a number of projects submitted for IUBS funding were reviewed. Expert opinions were prepared for 4 projects submitted for IUBS funding.

- throughout the year, information about IUBS events was disseminated among organizations under the scientific and methodological guidance of the RAS Department of Biological Sciences. These organizations received information about the online webinars held by (IUBS).

- on 26-29 October 2025, in Beijing (China), the 24th International Zoological Congress of the General Assembly of the International Society of Zoological Sciences (ISZS), integrated into IUBS since 1963, was held. Russian scientist, RAS Corresponding Member A.A. Kotov, was elected a member of the ISZS Executive Committee for the upcoming term (2025-2029).

in 2026

– work began on organizing the 7th International Symposium «Alien Species in the Holarctic» («Borok-7»), Yaroslavl, October 2026.
