Research Directions

The laboratory's work is carried out within the Priority Direction for the Development of Science, Technology, and Engineering in the Russian Federation — "Life Sciences, Rational Nature Management." The relevant Critical Technology of the Russian Federation is "Biocatalytic, Biosynthetic, and Biosensor Technologies; Biomedical and Veterinary Technologies." Fundamental and applied research is conducted in three main areas:

uncovering the innovative potential of symbiotic bacteria of animals — and, more recently, invertebrates have also become objects of study — with the aim of developing the fundamental basis for the comprehensive biotransformation of solid plant substrates, including agro-industrial waste, to produce feed additives that stimulate animal growth and development, feed protein, fat, and biologically active substances;
research into the nature of wakefulness and sleep, development of methods for the practical study of the sleep-wake cycle and its disorders, and models for the early diagnosis of pathology during the development of socially significant diseases;
fundamental and applied research in the field of chemical communication in humans and animals; physiology of the olfactory analyzer.
The qualifications of the laboratory staff make it possible to carry out a wide range of research using modern equipment. Biochemical, immunochemical, microscopic, electrophysiological, bioinformatic, and genetic methods are applied; behavioral tests with observation visualization and computer processing of results are also used.


Laboratory staff cooperate with partner enterprises on the implementation of innovative technologies and take part in production trials. Considerable attention is paid to bringing research developments to an innovative level, preparing materials for patenting, and developing regulatory and technical documentation.
