The laboratory carries out comprehensive interdisciplinary research on the structural and functional organization of boreal and tropical biogeocenoses, integrating field experimental observations, ecological modeling, and remote sensing data.
Laboratory staff conduct long-term, year-round observations of heat and greenhouse gas fluxes between the atmosphere and forest and mire biogeocenoses of the southern taiga subzone of European Russia and the monsoon tropical forest of Vietnam, using the eddy covariance method. This unique research has made it possible to assess the spatio-temporal variability of energy and mass exchange with the atmosphere in forest and mire biogeocenoses under present-day climate conditions.
