In recent years, laboratory staff have studied: the influence of climate change and anthropogenic landscape transformation on the life cycles and population and community dynamics of small mammals and birds; the mechanisms of elasticity and resilience of populations and communities in a changing world; the role of physico-geographic, ecological, and population barriers and stochastic processes in intraspecific structuring; the cytogenetic mechanisms of hybridization, isolation, and divergence of intraspecific forms; the physiological and immune mechanisms underlying the choice of reproductive strategies and population dynamics; and the factors and conditions determining reproductive decisions, reproductive success, and the fate of individuals.
