
Vyacheslav Vladimirovich is a Doctor of Biological Sciences, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Head of the Laboratory of Mammalian Behavior and Behavioral Ecology. He graduated from the K.A. Timiryazev Moscow Agricultural Academy in 1973 with a degree in animal science. Since 1974, he has worked at the A.N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences, where he served as Director from 2015 to 2021.
In 1984, he defended his PhD dissertation on "Marking Behavior in Mustelids," and in 2004, his doctoral dissertation on "Mediated Communication in the Social Behavior of Small Carnivorous Mammals: Carnivora: Mustelidae and Viverridae."
Vyacheslav Vladimirovich is a leading theriologist. As the head of the Permanent Expedition of the Russian Academy of Sciences, he leads large-scale projects to study animals listed in the Russian Red Book, including the Amur tiger, Far Eastern leopard, snow leopard, and polar bear. He also serves as the scientific director of significant international expeditions to Mongolia and Vietnam. Vyacheslav Vladimirovich is the President of the Sokolov Theriological Society of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
V.V. Rozhnov is a key developer of Russia's conservation strategy: he participated in the creation of the Red Book of the Russian Federation (2001), the development of the Conservation Strategies for the Amur tiger and polar bear, as well as programs for the reintroduction of the Persian leopard and Przewalski's horse. He is the author of over 340 scientific papers, the editor-in-chief of the journal "Izvestiya RAS. Biological Series," a professor, and a mentor to young scientists. His contributions have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Order of Friendship of Vietnam, the Demidov Prize (2019), and the title of laureate of the V.I. Vernadsky National Ecological Prize.
