The "Modern Problems of Geophysics" seminar resumes its Tuesday meetings at Moscow State University. The first meeting of the year and season will be held on January 27 at 5:00 PM, as a mobile event at the A.N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution, Russian Academy of Sciences.
Speaker: Svetlana Sergeevna Bricheva (Moscow State University, Institute of Geography, Russian Academy of Sciences)
Detecting mammal burrows using geophysical methods is an original and promising area of research. However, due to the small size of the burrows, their shallow depth, and the low contrast of the surrounding sediments, this problem remains far from being solved. In July 2025, comprehensive geophysical surveys were conducted over known desman and beaver burrows in the protected zone of the Oka Biosphere Reserve. A combination of ground penetrating radar, electrical resistivity tomography, and induction electrical profiling was used. We invite our colleagues to review the results of this study.
