Using telemetry methods, scientists from IEE RAS peered into the secret life of a hibernating rodent
Researchers at the Population Ecology Laboratory of the IEE RAS have described for the first time the daily activity of the yellow ground squirrel during the pre-hibernation period in a natural population.
The event will take place on June 6th and 7th and will combine environmental education, sports, creativity, and outdoor recreation.
The new issue of the journal "Problems of Ichthyology" is available for reading and downloading: Volume 66, Number 3, 2026.
The exhibition will feature real biological objects. Organizers warn: particularly sensitive viewers, as well as those with a pronounced phobia of worms and insects, may want to refrain.

Morphological and genetic variability of blood-sucking fly populations in northeastern Eurasia
Morphological and molecular variation in Ornithomya avicularia was researched using specimens from seven populations spanning Europe, Western Siberia, and the Russian Far East.
Red deer are extremely shy and difficult to see, so male calls were recorded using automatic sound traps set in the habitats of three different populations.
Many vole species live in groups consisting of a breeding pair and several successive litters.

Happy Victory Day, dear colleagues!
The event was attended by approximately 100 aviation specialists from states party to the Agreement on Civil Aviation and the Use of Airspace, including representatives of international organizations.
The snow leopard population in Russia is located at the northern edge of its range, forming a single transboundary population along with Mongolian leopards.
IEE RAS staff involved in the project to restore the Persian leopard in the Central Caucasus participated in the Third "Protected Area Camera Trap 2026" workshop.
The goal of the fieldwork was to collect data on the sea otter population in the Southern Kuril Islands to develop conservation measures.
Many know of Timofey the Pallas's cat, the symbol of the Moscow Zoo and the subject of many memes, whose journey to adulthood and the search for a mate is followed with interest by Russians.

We welcome the interest of schoolchildren and students in our Institute and look forward to seeing everyone at future open events!
In this lake, the scientists found char that has existed in complete isolation, presumably since the melting of the glaciers, when the fish's ancestors migrated up the stream from the river.
