Nordgold actively and fruitfully cooperates with the Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the field of environmental protection and conservation of biological diversity. One of the important areas of cooperation is educational events for company personnel aimed at increasing environmental awareness of employees and, as a result, minimizing the impact of production on the surrounding ecosystems.
Daniil Korobushkin, Candidate of Biological Sciences, senior researcher, and Ksenia Dudova, Candidate of Biological Sciences, researcher at the Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences, held the following events for Nordgold ecologists within the framework of the forum “Conservation of Biodiversity and Sustainable Management of Biological Resources”:
- lectures followed by discussion “Monitoring the state of animal habitats”, “Monitoring the state of vegetation: basic approaches and principles”, within the framework of which the concept of “biological diversity”, the basic principles and methods of monitoring biological diversity in places where mining enterprises are present were considered;
- master classes on identifying plants using neural networks, identifying birds using modern identification tools, a master class on assessing biological diversity and numerical indicators of the main groups of large soil invertebrates (macrofauna);
- lectures followed by discussion “Measures for the conservation and restoration of animal biological diversity”, “Measures for the conservation and restoration of vegetation”.
