На протяжении последних 30 лет отечественная биологическая наука ведет планомерные научные исследования в одном из интереснейших центров биологического разнообразия и видообразования Земли - Эфиопии. Еще в 20-е годы прошлого столетия великий российский ученый-генетик, академик Н.И. Вавилов, развивая представление Ч. Дарвина о существовании географических центров происхождения видов живых организмов и идеи Д. Декандоля о географических областях происхождения главнейших культурных растений, провел экспедицию в Эфиопию и выделил Эфиопский Центр, давший, по его мнению, 4% всех культурных растений человечества. Продолжить исследования Н.И. Вавилова удалось в 1980-е годы. После переговоров с эфиопской стороной (1983-84 гг.) и Распоряжений Совета Министров СССР № 743р от 20 апреля 1984 г. и № 891р от 7 мая 1988 г. на основании совместного решения Академии наук СССР и Комиссии по науке и технике Социалистической Эфиопии от 17 январе 1987 г была создана Совместная Советско-Эфиопская Биологическая Экспедиция (в последствии - Совместная Российско-Эфиопская Биологическая Экспедиция (СРЭБЭ)). Главными научными предпосылками создания (СРЭБЭ) были уникальность природы Эфиопии: разнообразие ландшафтов (от пустынь и тропических лесов до высокогорий); Рифтовая долина, верховья самой длинной реки Мира - Нила) и ее исключительно слабая изученность.

Эфиопия

Основными задачами СРЭБЭ являются изучение биоразнообразия, эволюции живых организмов, биологических ресурсов Эфиопии, выявление перспективных видов животных для использования в народном хозяйстве, разработка природоохранных рекомендаций и оказание помощи в подготовке национальных научных кадров через совместное участие ученых двух стран в исследовательских программах и подготовку квалификационных научных работ.

За время своего существования СРЭБЭ прошла сложный путь становления к признанию значимости выполняемых исследований как для фундаментальной науки, так и для практики. В последнем случае это выразилось в широком привлечении СРЭБЭ и российских экспертов к работам в прикладных народно-хозяйственных проектах.

Последние годы работы СРЭБЭ ведутся по четырем основным направлениям.

  1. Изучение биологии почвообразующих организмов, таксономия и распространение наземных беспозвоночных.
  2. Исследование распространения, таксономии, эволюции и экологии мелких млекопитающих.
  3. Исследование распространения, таксономии, эволюции и экологии водных организмов.
  4. Исследования в области исторической экологии.

По всем этим направлениям созданы научные коллективы, известные во многих странах мира.

ЭфиопияВ ходе работ СРЭБЭ были обследованы основные типы экологических систем страны. Для всех регионов составлен исчерпывающий список обитающих в них организмов, многие их которых (около 200) описаны впервые не только для Эфиопии, но и для мировой фауны. Так, до начала работ Экспедиции, для водоемов Эфиопии было известно только 94 вида рыб, после работ СРЭБЭ их стало около 200 видов. В водоемах страны найдено более 50 видов ракообразных, 10 из которых - новые для науки. Впервые найдено более 160 видов почвенных беспозвоночных животных. Ученые СРЭБЭ обнаружили 35 новых видов млекопитающих, 9 из них являются новыми для науки. На территории Эфиопии выявлены очаги биоразнообразия и центры видообразования животных. На основании полученных данных внесен существенный вклад в познание механизмов возникновения «пучков форм» организмов. Показано соответствие наблюдаемой ситуации теоретической модели симпатрического формообразования. Результаты этих исследований важны для разработки стратегии сохранения биоразнообразия и позволили российским ученым выйти по ряду направлений на передовые рубежи мировой науки. Работы СРЭБЭ широко известны и признаны мировой научной общественностью. К настоящему времени из печати вышло около 370 научных публикаций, включая статьи в крупных международных периодических изданиях, монографии, и тематические сборники; проведен ряд научных конференций.

СРЭБЭ участвовала в подготовке экологических обоснований крупных гидромелиоративных проектов в междуречье Баро-Акобо в Верховьях Белого Нила в юго-западной Эфиопии (осуществлялся с помощью СССР/РФ); реках Омо (юг Эфиопии) и Аваш (восточная Эфиопия). Рассмотрены на месте и определены причины случаев столкновений птиц с самолетами. В рамках СРЭБЭ разработана технология искусственного воспроизводства ряда промысловых рыб Эфиопии. Адаптирована и внедрена в ряде фермерских хозяйств вермикультура, повышающая плодородие почв. Участники СРЭБЭ неоднократно готовили экспертные заключения по объектам природы, сельскому хозяйству и промыслу животных для эфиопских и российских организаций. По инициативе СРЭБЭ в конце 1980-х годов Эфиопии была передана уникальная коллекция семян сельскохозяйственных культур, собранная академиком Н.И. Вавиловым в ходе его экспедиции в Эфиопию в 1920-е годы. В 2012 г., через 85 лет после экспедиции Н.И. Вавилова в рамках СРЭБЭ в Эфиопию была совершена поездка по его маршруту, которая позволила выявить современное состояние сортов пшеницы, выведенных в этой стране. В 2017 г. стартовал Проект международной организации UNIDO/ООНПР (Организация объединенных наций по промышленному развитию) по развитию рыбного хозяйства Эфиопии, в котором принимает участие СРЭБЭ.

ЭфиопияВ ходе совместных исследований 15 эфиопских специалистов совершили поездки в Россию для обучения и совместной обработки данных. Под руководством российских ученых три эфиопских специалиста защитили диссертационные работы. В настоящее время, еще два специалиста готовят свои работы к защите;

В исследованиях Экспедиции принимали и принимают участие ученые из 9-ти институтов РАН-ФАНО, и 5-ти организаций других ведомств (ВУЗов и отраслевых НИИ). Головной организацией по выполнению программы научных исследований СРЭБЭ является крупнейший институт Отделения биологических наук Институт проблем экологии и эволюции им. А.Н. Северцова РАН.

Финансирование СРЭБЭ осуществляется из бюджета РАН по программе Долгосрочных международных проектов РАН.

Учитывая высокую значимость выполненных работ, занявших лидирующее место в мировых исследованиях по данному региону Африки и вносящих неоспоримый вклад в развитие фундаментальных исследований в области биологии, экологии и охраны биоразнообразия на Земле и в связи с тем, что последнее подписанное соглашение о сотрудничестве в рамках СРЭБЭ заканчивалось 31 декабря 2017 года, в Эфиопию была направлена делегация Российской академии наук во главе с вице-президентом РАН, академиком РАН, А.В. Адриновым, при участии руководителя Секции Общей биологии Отделения биологических наук РАН академика Ю.Ю. Дгебуадзе. В середине декабря 2017 г. были проведены переговоры с руководством Министерства Науки и Технологии Эфиопии во главе с Министром, доктором инженерии Гетахуном Мекурия (Dr. Ing. Getahun Mekuria) о путях дальнейшего сотрудничества в области совместных биологических исследований на территории Эфиопии. Следует отметить, что ранее подписанное Соглашение являлось, в свою очередь, пунктом реализации Соглашения об экономической и научно-технической кооперации между правительством Российской федерации и правительством Федеративной демократической республики Эфиопия от 26 ноября 1999 года.

В результате проведенных переговоров достигнуто обоюдное понимание важности выполняемых исследований и стремление обеих сторон поднять данный вид научного сотрудничества на более высокий и современный уровень международных связей. Высказано предложение о целесообразности создания в Эфиопии Совместного российско-эфиопского центра биологических исследований (СРЭЦБИ), в работу которого органически войдут исследования СРЭБЭ. В связи с этим деятельность СРЭБЭ продлена до конца 2018 г., в течение которого планируется разработать структуру и задачи Центра.

По мнению руководства Российской академии наук, развитие научных исследований в Эфиопии имеет большое геополитическое значение. В столице Эфиопии Аддис-Абебе располагается Штаб-квартира Африканского союза (ранее Организации Африканского единства) и во многих отношениях, включая научное сотрудничество, она является как бы «входом» на весь африканский континент. Работы российских биологов в рамках уникального долгосрочного проекта РАН в Эфиопии являются ярким примером научной дипломатии. В ходе работ СРЭБЭ у российских ученых завязались контакты не только со специалистами из Эфиопии и других стран Африки (Гвинеи, Египта, Танзании, Уганды, Эритреи, ЮАР,) но и с учеными других континентов (Бельгии, Германии, Израиля, Канады, Нидерландов, США, Франции, Чешской Республики), работающих на африканском континенте. Результатами этих контактов стали совместные исследования и публикации.

В настоящее время СРЭБЭ является единственным и уникальным долгосрочным научным проектом Российской академии наук на африканском континенте, выполняемым высококвалифицированными специалистами с богатым опытом работы на африканском континенте.

28 марта 2018 г. в Департаменте зоологических наук Университета г. Аддис-Абебы была успешно защищена докторская (PhD) диссертация аспиранта Мохаммеда Кассо “Разнообразие, распространение и охрана мелких млекопитающих горного массива Чилало-Галама (юго-восточная Эфиопия)”.
