LABORATORY OF BIOINDICATION AND ECOLOGICAL MONOTORING OF NUCLEAR POWER PLANT REGIONS

The overall objective of the Laboratory is the study of stability of homeorhesis in animals to the impact of new materials and radionuclides. This goal is achieved through comprehensive research on various systems of organisms, from molecular to morphological.

The Laboratory studies the effects of engineered nanomaterials (nanoparticles) on living organisms. The data received show that nanoparticles can affect fish development, and in chronic situations often cause DNA and chromosomal damage.

The presence of ecotoxicants in the environment leads to cumulative effects of nanoparticles on living organisms, which must be considered in the production and use of nanomaterials.

The Laboratory has developed a number of methodological indications and recommendations for determination of toxicity of nanoparticles for living organisms. Promising models for toxicological and biomedical research are being developed.
